A traditional story :Chang’e and Houyi

Chang'e is the Chinese goddess of the moon. The lunar exploration-orbiting spacecraft Chang'e 1 is named after her.

According to legend, Chang'e and her husband Houyi were immortals living in heaven. One day, the ten sons of the Jade Emperor transformed into ten suns, causing the earth to scorch. Having failed to order his sons to stop ruining the earth, the Jade Emperor summoned Houyi for help. Houyi, using his legendary archery skills, shot down nine of the sons, but spared one son to be the sun. The Jade Emperor was obviously not pleased with Houyi's solution to save the earth: nine of his sons were dead. As punishment, the Jade Emperor banished Houyi and Chang'e to live as mere mortals on earth.

Seeing that Chang'e felt extremely miserable over her loss of immortality, Houyi decided to journey on a long, perilous quest to find the pill of immortality so that the couple could be immortals again. At the end of his quest he met the Queen Mother of the West who agreed to give him the pill, but warned him that each person would only need half the pill tobecome immortal.

Houyi brought the pill home and stored it in a case. He warned Chang'e not to open the case and then left home for a while. Chang'e became too curious: she opened up the case and found the pill just as Houyi was returning home. She either accidentally or purposely swallowed the pill. She started to float into the sky because of the overdose. Chang'e kept on floating until she landed on the moon.

While she became lonely on the moon without her husband, she did have company,a jade rabbit.

I'll going to tell you about the local community center that i often go to. The shopping center is about 2 miles up the road from where I live. I could walk there. The shops are in a sort of village at the edge of the city of xxxx, it’s called xxxx.

Local people of different ages and all walks go there. My family and friends extensively use the center for various activities. My wife and mother take Yoga lessons every day at the community hall. Me and my friends use the sports facilities like Badminton and Swimming frequently. There is a cinema for all movie-lovers, and what amazing is that there is also a small studio for all sorts of arts exhibitions. In addition to that, the center is a favorite spot for locals to socialize. It acts as a breath of fresh air in our mundane lives. Children visit the center regularly for sports and games. In fact it is one of the very few places that is safe for children to play freely. All of the above reasons have led to strong bonding between people and have subsequently created a safe neighborhood.

So basically, if it is closed, it would be a great loss to the community. Adults will find it difficult to socialize, children will be deprived of a safe place to play and have fun together.

Right in the heart of Beijing, our nation’s capital, is a collection of buildings that includes palaces and political offices that have been there for hundreds of years. The architecture is uniquely Chinese in design and absolutely beautiful to behold. The detail in the masonry and roof is like nothing else on this planet. They truly are exceptionally beautiful and impressive to look at. For many years these buildings have been photographed and displayed for all to see.

These days they are not used for much, but instead serve as tourist sites for millions who visit China each year. Tour groups are led through the halls of the palace and other buildings and these visits bring a lot of revenue to the industry. Tourists are blown away by the symmetrical design and delicate details of these buildings. They represent our long history and symbolize our rich culture.

I know about these buildings because all Chinese students are taught their history and value at school. Teachers like to point out their significance and detailed historical value.

For me, the buildings hold a nostalgic value as they represent our long, deep, cultural history. I can just imagine how many famous rulers and decision makers have come and gone in those halls. The buildings help to shape our past and also provide a reminder to the future of the importance of culture and heritage. They make me feel proud to be Chinese.
